Review of Exploring Creation with Astronomy
Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy is a very well-organized and easy-to-read textbook that is made even better when used alongside the accompanying notebooking journal. While the notebooking journal is certainly not necessary, it definitely added to the experience and was very helpful in reinforcing what was taught in the textbook.

We cruised right through the first chapter on “What is astronomy” and even brought out our space figurines to bring in an additional hands-on component. It was full of captivating images that helped break up the reading (not that the textbook even really needed any breaking up as it was so easy to read and kept our attention the whole time).
Miss 4 even sat down to listen while I read to Miss 7. Miss 19 months listened for a while and then kept herself busy with space figurines. After reading the first chapter, we worked in the notebooking journal, making our own astronomy matchbook, coloring the included coloring pages, filling in the crossword puzzle, and working on copywork. Bonus- I didn’t get one complaint during the entire lesson – we’ll call that another win. 🙂
We browsed through the rest of the book and journal and can’t wait to dig into the rest! Science has now become one of our favorite subjects thanks to this captivating book! Additional chapters cover the sun, moon, planets, and space rocks and look just as fascinating as the first chapter.
We also brought out our solar system set which paired nicely with the textbook.
The notebooking journal was such a great supplement to the book and something I would definitely recommend. If your child is anything like Miss 7, who really enjoys hands-on activities as well as reading assignments, you will definitely appreciate this great addition to the curriculum. The journal includes coloring, writing, and cutting and pasting assignments, which is great, especially when little sisters get to work with crayons and glue so much during the day. 🙂

Great post. I've seen this book promoted elsewhere recently. I'm an astronomy nut and I'm drawn to blog posts on the subject. Thanks. Great write up.
