Print out your washi tape hearts printable and gather your supplies.
Next, roughly cut the hearts out, leaving some space around each one. We included three different sizes – you can use all three or, if you have very little ones, you may decide the smaller hearts are more their speed (they will take less time and tape to cover them).
Next, tear or cut off a strip of washi tape and place it on the paper heart. Repeat until the heart is completely covered. There is no right or wrong way to do this – you could place the tape all in a line or place the tape strips on completely randomly.
Miss 19 months had just as much fun working on her washi tape hearts as her big sisters did. As she was unable to tear the tape off herself, I simply cut off strips of tape as she handed me her desired color and then she pressed them on herself. She had a blast! Such a great activity! I even got in on the fun and made several washi tape hearts myself.
Once the paper hearts have been completely covered in washi tape, cut them out. You may need to help with this step as it may be a little difficult to see the outline of the heart, especially if your artists went heavy on the washi tape. This was one of my favorite steps of the project as it was so fun to see the final reveal.
We turned our hearts over and taped on a bit of bakers twine so that we could hang our washi tape hearts from doorknobs and cabinet pulls but you could leave them as is and use them to write little notes for Valentine’s Day (or any day!), or you could string them and make them into a heart garland or banner.
I love how each heart came out so differently!
