Seaside Game Review: Strategic Fun That Travels With You!
If you’re anything like us, you’re always on the lookout for something that will keep the kids busy and boost their brain power — preferably without requiring a Wi-Fi signal, ten AA batteries, or a PhD to set up.
That’s where Seaside comes in — the game that’s part brain workout, part beachy good time, and 100% parent-approved.
What is Seaside, exactly?
Seaside is a portable, eco-friendly strategy game designed for kids and families. It’s the kind of game that makes you wonder, “Why don’t we play this all the time?” after just one round. The rules are easy enough for younger kids to catch on quickly, but there’s enough depth to keep older kids (and adults!) hooked too.
Think of it like chess meets a beach scavenger hunt — but make it more colorful and a lot more portable.
The concept of Seaside is simple:
1. Draw a token from the bag and choose a side (they’re double-sided)
2. Apply its effect and collect as many tokens as you can
3. The highest stack of tokens at the end wins
This game is super unique – I loved the game options. For example, if you choose a sandpiper, add it to your seaside, take as many isopods as you wish from the sea, and add them beneath your sandpiper token to form a sandpiper stack.
Why we love it: Strategy meets simplicity
Seaside isn’t just about fun — it’s sneaky smart. Each move requires a bit of planning, prediction, and strategic thinking. It’s a great way to stretch those decision-making muscles, all without turning it into a school lesson.
Your kids will be weighing options, predicting outcomes, and learning from mistakes without even realizing it. And — maybe they’ll start applying that same logic to other aspects of their life.
Made for on-the-go families
The kids played this game at the table and outside but it would also be great to take on a road trip because it’s compact, super durable, and the kind of thing you can play on a picnic blanket, a campsite table, or even in the backseat.
Also, it doesn’t come with a million tiny pieces that disappear under car seats or sofa cushions. So that’s a plus. 😆
Bonus points: It’s eco-friendly!
Yes, it’s made from eco-friendly materials, which I love! I love the fabric bag (it’s super durable!) and the wood tokens — they feel great in your hand. There’s just something about natural materials that just feel different, you know?
Final thoughts: Big win in a small package
If you’re looking for a game that’s educational, portable, and fun for everybody, Seaside is a total win.
Great for rainy days, sunny afternoons, road trips, or family game nights. Plus, it helps your kids grow their strategic brains without even knowing they’re doing it. Sort of like putting broccoli in the pasta. 🤭
The kids loved playing and I loved how unique of a game it is!
