With the Scratch Coding Cards, your child will write an interactive story, create a virtual pet, and play hide and seek. What a fun way to learn sequencing, conditionals, and variables! If you are new to scratch coding, do not fear! An introductory booklet is included that tells you everything you’ll need to know. To see our full review + lots of photos, please continue reading below.
With Scratch Coding, children will learn to code with a deck of 75 instructional cards by creating interactive games, stories, music, and animations with Scratch, a popular visual programming language.
We started by installing the free program. All the instructions on how to do this are included in the handy guide found inside the box.
Next, we went to the Scratch website: scratch.mit.edu, created an account, and selected “create” to start a new project.
The site is very colorful, animated, and fun!
The deck of cards included instructions on everything from playing a chord and racing to the finish to appearing in a scene and adding a sound.
The cards are color-coded into 10 different types:
- Animate your name
- Race to the finish
- Make music
- Hide and seek
- Create a story
- Dress-up game
- Pong game
- Let’s dance
- Catch game
- Virtual pet
Each card is double-sided – with one side showing what you’ll create and the other side showing how to complete it.
We have never tried anything like this before and I was a little bit intimidated at first but we quickly figured it out and Miss 9 really enjoyed working on the program.
