We’ve used a lot of different science curricula over the years and I have to say, Real Science-4-Kids is a winner!
Real Science-4-Kids builds a solid science foundation through clear, engaging lessons—bringing real science to life in a fun, approachable way, all without the stress of required experiments.
If science overwhelms you, I truly believe you are going to love this curriculum.
This textbook is perfect for homeschool families—especially with multiple kids—because you can just sit down anywhere and dive right into the book. No scrambling to find a dozen supplies or decipher a science experiment that looks more like a Pinterest fail waiting to happen.

Real Science-4-Kids (RSFK) was created with homeschoolers in mind—making science feel doable and even fun! Each year (they have seven) builds logically on five essential topics: chemistry, biology, physics, geology, and astronomy.
This book covers subjects such as:
- The philosophy of science
- The periodic table of elements
- Types of atoms inside cells
- The basic laws of physics
- What is geology
- Kinetic energy
- Minerals
- Rocks
- Soils
- Inside Earth
- Volcanoes
- Eclipses
- And more!
From the very start, students are introduced to real scientific terms and foundational concepts, all grounded in the latest cognitive research. The textbook is written in a clear, easy-to-follow style, and the bright, engaging illustrations help everything click.
Best of all? No experiments are required (but you can totally add them if you want).
If you ever feel like adding a hands-on activity, just hop over to the RS4K Experiment Hub. You can browse, pick an experiment, download and print the instructions, gather the supplies, hand your child the student pages, and walk them through the fun.
For parents who want to take things up a notch, there are optional digital extras too! These include detailed lesson plans, interactive study notebooks, and quizzes—all designed to make teaching easier and learning more personalized and engaging.
My children and I loved the colorful graphics, photographs, and how easy it was to understand the concepts.
I also loved the larger-sized font, headers, and thick, durable paper. I always appreciate when a book has good quality printing and this one definitely does.
Plus, each chapter includes a summary of key words and concepts, as well as vocabulary words.
The book also includes a glossary with pronunciations, which I love!
The kids enjoyed simply reading through the book before we even started our lessons!
I don’t know how they do it but they have a real knack for making what could be very complicated subjects, very easy to understand and relatable.
I loved that they used examples that children can relate to, such when the book talked about energy and “an example of an object with potential energy is a book on a table. It may not seem like the book can do work but because the book is not on the floor but is raised, it has the potential to fall off the table.”
I personally found the books super fascinating!
I found it super interesting to learn about:
- Some metamorphic rocks are foliated, or layered. The word foliated comes from the Latin word foliare which means “leaf.”
- Gravitational potential energy = weight x height
- And more!
If you’re looking for a homeschool science course, I would highly recommend Real Science-4-Kids. I would recommend these for anyone, really. They’re great just to read through!
