Looking for a fun, eco-friendly craft that’s as cute as it is clever? This Apple Purse for Dolls is the perfect little DIY! They can also be used as apple boxes for trinkets!
Made from a humble egg carton, this mini purse looks just like a tiny apple—complete with a leafy top and adorable apple seeds (which you can grab as a free printable below!).
Whether your little one wants to accessorize their dolls, carry tiny treasures, or just loves all things miniature, this craft is a must-try. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to repurpose materials you already have at home.
This is a fun craft for the first day of school, to go along with your apple unit, for Earth Day, or any other day of the year!

What You’ll Need:
- An empty egg carton (these are the ones we used!)
- Red and white paint (or any color for a creative twist!)
- Twine
- Hot glue
- My free printable for the apple leaf and seeds (download below!) Or, purchase the file here.
- A paintbrush, scissors, and a little creativity
How to Make It:
- Cut & Prep – Cut out two sections of an egg carton to form the apple halves. Trim any rough edges. You’ll also need a small strip to use as your hinge.
- Paint It – Coat the outside with red paint and let it dry completely. Paint the inside too, if you’d like! We painted the inside a metallic white.
Watch our video to see how we made it!
- Glue the Seeds In – Grab the free printable and cut out the apple seeds. We glued three tiny seeds inside the bottom of the apple.
- Attach twine – Hot glue the twine inside the apple to make the handle.
- Add the Hinge – Use a bit of the egg carton for a hinge. Attach it to the bottom half of the apple with hot glue and then attach to the top half to connect the two halves so they open like a real hinged box.
- Attach the Details – Add a bit of hot glue to the top of the apple and attach a small twig and the leaf.
- Accessorize & Play! – Pop a tiny treasure inside and let the dolls enjoy their new apple bag! Or, make one for the kids to put their small trinkets in from their next nature walk!
