Today we’re combining two of our favorite things- playdough and books! Hmm, make that three of our favorite things! We love our chocolate chip cookies too! 🙂 Read on to see how much fun we had with this adorable chocolate chip cookie activity.

What You’ll Need
- Playdough (we bought Play-Doh this time but our homemade chocolate playdough would be perfect for this activity as well!)
- Round cookie cutter
- Rolling pin
- Laminator
What to Do
We added in a quick color mixing lesson by mixing red, blue, and yellow playdough to create our brown chocolate chip playdough. We typically make homemade playdough but went the store-bought route this time.

Once you’ve mixed the playdough thoroughly, you should have a nice rich chocolate brown.

We decided to set some of this color aside to use as our chocolate chips and then we took most of the brown playdough, mixed it with white, and created our lighter chocolate brown color, which we used to create our cookies.

Once you have your two brown playdough colors, you are ready to make your cookies!

Begin by rolling out the lighter brown playdough and cut them into circles using your circle cookie cutter.

Next, roll your darker brown playdough into small balls or chocolate chips and place them on the “cookies.” We made our cookies with our “chocolate chips” ranging from 1-10 chips per cookie.
The kids loved making the chocolate chips and enjoyed counting them out for each cookie!

Once your cookies have been made, allow them to dry thoroughly. It took us a few days for our cookies to dry but it was well worth the wait!

Then, we read “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Again. And again. 🙂

We had so much fun practicing our numbers with playdough and reading our book that we thought why not make some cookie counting playdough mats as well?
We made several variations so you can print them out, laminate them, and use them to match the numbers, practice reading, or practice counting (we also included chip-less cookies so you could place your own playdough chocolate chips on them- or maybe use actual chocolate chips on them to practice counting- how fun!!).
The possibilities are truly endless with these printable cookies. How will you use them? Let us know in the comment section below!
