What You’ll Need
- 1 cup flour
- 2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- Cooking pot
- Wooden mixing spoon
- Play ice cream cones
- Beads
- Mini scoopers
- Playdough accessories
What to Do
Begin by whipping up a batch of chocolate playdough. You can use our one-pot method below, or use our no-cook playdough method.
Mix the following ingredients together in a cooking pot:
- 1 cup flour
- 2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
Once all the ingredients have been mixed, cook them over medium heat while mixing continuously.
The playdough mixture will start melting down and then, after a few minutes, it will start to ball up and pull away from the sides of the pot (and your arm muscles will start to ache!); that’s when you know your dough is cooked.
It’s okay if some areas are still a bit sticky looking but for the most part, it should look like playdough. Don’t worry about adding any food coloring with this one, the cocoa powder will add a mild scent as well as the color.
Once the playdough has cooled, you can knead it a bit. We then put our playdough in our divided tray and included some items we thought would be fun to make everything needed for chocolate playdough treats.
The kids enjoyed making ice cream cones. Three scoops, please!
They also enjoyed making chocolate cookies. Oh, how we wish we could eat these!
Cupcakes were also a favorite, with extra sprinkles all around.
