Pumpkin Playdough Mats for Number Practice {Free Printables!}

If you’re a regular here at The Art Kit, you know we are big fans of playdough! Between the lemon playdough, space galaxy playdough, and the chocolate playdough, we manage to sneak in a few other crafts as well but even then, we often manage to sneak in some sort of clay material. If you love playdough as much as we do, you are going to love this one! In the event you aren’t a playdough fan, this activity can easily be modified to use without playdough. Read on to see what fun we had!

What You’ll Need

1 cup flour

2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter

1/4 cup salt

1 tablespoon oil

1 cup water

Cooking pot

Wooden mixing spoon

Orange food coloring

Laminator or dry erase pockets

What to Do

Begin by whipping up a batch of our one-pot playdough:

Mix the following ingredients together in a cooking pot:

1 cup flour

2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter

1/4 cup salt

1 tablespoon oil

1 cup water

Once all the ingredients have been mixed, cook them over medium heat while mixing continuously. The playdough mixture will start melting down and then, after a few minutes, it will start to ball up and pull away from the sides of the pot (and your arm muscles will start to ache!); that’s when you know your dough is cooked. It’s okay if some areas are still a bit sticky looking. For the most part, however, it should look like playdough.

Once the playdough has cooled, knead it a bit and add in several drops of orange food coloring.

You can get a set of our pumpkin playdough mats here and then either laminate them or place them in dry erase pockets

Now, set out the playdough and mats and let your little ones have fun practicing numbers! You could also use buttons or pom poms instead of playdough.

We had so much fun with this activity! After using the sheets with playdough, we used dry erase markers and practiced writing out the numbers.
