Created to honor the centennial of Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Dot-Dot Philadelphia is a book unlike any other. A winner of multiple awards, it includes 23 challenging dot-to-dot puzzles depicting attractions in the Parkway Museum District, with both one and two-page puzzles included, ranging in size from 156 to 1,690 connectable dots.

This book may test your patience at times (we spent nearly five minutes trying to find the first dot on one of the puzzles) and sometimes even your eyesight (in some areas there are many dots and numbers clustered tightly together) but once you complete your first puzzle, you will feel a deep sense of satisfaction and we’re certain you’ll be hooked! What You’ll Need

Review of Dot-to-Dot Philadelphia

At first glance, you will see only a sea of numbers and dots. Fortunately, there is a guide in the back of the book that outlines what each puzzle is, as well as a brief description of its significance, in case you want a hint of what you’ll be working on beforehand. We actually appreciated that we couldn’t initially tell what the final image would be – it made it more exciting to work through each puzzle as the image unfolded before our eyes with each line we drew.

While this book is geared towards ages 8 and up, Miss 7 and I enjoyed working on the puzzles together. At first glance, we were both admittingly unsure and a little apprehensive about Dot-to-Dot Philadelphia. It seemed difficult to determine which dot belonged to which number and at first we couldn’t even find the first dot but we were determined not to give up. I’m so glad we stayed with it because we really did have a blast and it wasn’t nearly as difficult as we thought it would be!

If you enjoyed dot-to-dot books as a child, or if you enjoy working on traditional puzzles as an adult, or even if you enjoy word finds, you will love this book! It has just the right level of challenge without it being too much, especially if you’ve already had a busy or stressful day and are looking for a fun way to unwind.

We also loved how this book brought history to life in such a fun way! If you live in the area or are planning on visiting, we would definitely recommend picking up this book beforehand. You could also easily use this book as a stepping stone to further research and lessons on each of the attractions depicted in the puzzles. We enjoyed learning all about the Fairmount Water Works, for example. Did you know that it was originally a pumping station, later an aquarium, and today it houses an award-winning urban environmental education center? What will you learn? Pick up your copy today and let the adventure begin!

I love the idea of having the short tidbits of history for each picture! Makes it so much more fun to explore and learn about the puzzle you just completed!

I have really enjoyed working through these puzzles. I too like guessing at what the images will become!

Yes! It makes it so much more exciting to not know what the image is beforehand!
