Today we’re sharing our latest playdough recipe made using essential oils. You know we love our playdough and this batch did not disappoint!
We took our one pot playdough recipe and added Yuzu essential oil and put together a very simple activity for the kids. Read on to see how we put it all together.
What You’ll Need
- Homemade playdough
- Yuzu essential oil
- Food coloring
- Mini rolling pin (we have two rolling pins and this is our favorite-it’s just like a real rolling pin but for smaller hands)
- Flowers
- Birds
- Playdough accessories
What to Do
We started by making a double batch of our one pot playdough. Once it had cooled down a bit, we added a few drops of food coloring, kneaded it until the color was incorporated, then added a couple drops of Yuzu essential oil and kneaded it a bit more. It smelled so good! It was almost as if we were in the middle of a citrus orchard. Can you smell it?
We then dug through our playdough basket and picked out all of the yellow objects (no reason in particular but we thought we’d use this as a fun color activity for the kids as well as sensory).
The kids planted flowers and played with the bird figures. It was a sunshine filled afternoon, that’s for sure!
And, of course, the baby had to investigate. She approved of it all and even attempted to run off with the bottle of Yuzu oil and freshly made playdough. Can you blame her though? We were tempted to do the same. 😉
All in all, it was another fun-filled playdough activity. We hope you enjoyed this activity as much as we did. We’d love to see you enjoying your diy playdough with Yuzu essential oil. Share with us on social media #theartkit.

Great question! We haven't noticed a decrease in scent in our essential oil playdoughs (even after drying the playdough, they still smell great - even a year or more later) but you could always add another drop or so if you notice the scent has diminished a bit.
