Game Review: eeBoo Matching Card Game – Great for Practicing Simple Addition

If you read our HABA pegging game review, you know what we look for when it comes to games and toys for children:

  1. Quality, well made games and toys
  2. Simplicity (I have other things to do than spend excessive amounts of time trying to figure out complicated game instructions lol)
  3. Incorporates educational components with fun

The object of eeBoo’s matching game is to earn the most points by collecting matching pairs of cards and/or the high-point Fairy Queen card.

The rules of the game are simple. Shuffle the deck and deal them all.

After all the players have checked their hands for matching pairs and placed them in front of them, the youngest player starts play by drawing a card from the hand of the player to their left.

If the card matches any in their hand, they put the new pair in front of them and play continues to the next player.

Once all cards have been paired, the player with the Fairy Queen receives a 10-point bonus. All players will then add up the points from the cards in front of them and the player with the most points wins the game.

Most cards are valued at 2 points, with the exception of the 10 point Fairy Queen card and the 5 point fairy season cards. This makes for a great excuse to practice skip counting by 2’s and 5’s at the end of the game.

If we didn’t play this game as much as we do, I would be tempted to string these adorable cards up on twine and display them. They’d even make adorable little bookmarks! Hmm, maybe I should invest in a second deck of cards …

Even with all the play these cards have seen, they still look brand new. They are durable, well-made cards and I must say, those rounded corners are a big plus too (if you’ve ever been poked in the hand by sharp corners, you know what I mean!).

Even the box is extra durable and easy to open and close. It’s the little things, you know?

Also, I must point out that the folks at eeBoo are geniuses because they match the back of their cards and games to their box. See that beautiful blue pattern on the back of each card? You’ll find that same pattern on the box. Genius, right? This especially comes in handy when the two-year-old decides to dump all the puzzles out together and you’re left trying to pick up all the pieces. 🙂
