We had some extra blue playdough left over from our beach themed playdough activity so we thought we’d repurpose it and use it for a cloud themed playdough activity. We picked up a new set of toobs and the kids had a blast! Read on below to see what twist we put on this themed set!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Food coloring
  • Cooking pot
  • Wooden mixing spoon
  • In the sky toob set
  • Cotton balls
  • Divided tray (optional)

What to Do

Begin by whipping up a batch of our one-pot playdough:

Mix the following ingredients together in a cooking pot:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons cream of tarter
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup water

Once all the ingredients have been mixed, cook them over medium heat while mixing continuously. The playdough mixture will start melting down and then, after a few minutes, it will start to ball up and pull away from the sides of the pot (and your arm muscles will start to ache!); that’s when you know your dough is cooked. It’s okay if some areas are still a bit sticky looking. For the most part, however, it should look like playdough.

Once the playdough has cooled, add in a few drops of gel food coloring, knead it a bit, and then place it in your divided tray along with the other materials and allow your child to play. The cotton balls were a really fun addition to this set and gave a really fun texture to the playdough.

Does the glitter look familiar? We had a bunch left over from our space playdough activity so the kiddos added a bit to this batch to make the sky sparkle. 🙂

We all had a blast playing with the planes, cotton clouds, and playdough! The kids even made runways for the planes!

This was such a simple activity, easy to put together, and yet really captivated their imaginations.

I did some searching on Amazon and discovered a fun cloud book that would be great to bring an educational aspect to this activity.

And then, after awhile, the scissors came out. Somehow, no matter what activity we are working on, they figure out a way to incorporate scissors! 🙂

Our kiddos absolutely love cutting, especially playdough!
