We’ve been having a BLAST with our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom playdough activity! Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is one of our favorite books, so naturally, we had to create an activity that incorporated the storyline. Never read the book? Pick it up from your local library or order it online here.
What You’ll Need
- Green, brown, and yellow playdough (Check out our BEST homemade playdough recipe here or you could use this playdough.)
- Colorful letters
- Beads, small wood balls, or pom poms to use as coconuts
- Tweezers to grab the coconuts and letters with and transfer to the coconut tree (optional, but the kids love using them and they help with fine motor skills)
What to Do
Gather your supplies and book.
Shape your brown playdough into a trunk and your green playdough into palm fronds.
Place the coconuts on your tree.
Add letters to the tree.
Don’t forget the moon!
Read the story to your child as they play with their activity. See if they can select the correct letter to go up the tree as you read. Or, after reading them the story, let them have open-ended play.
Share your tree with us! Tag us on social media #theartkit.
