After our last activity, which involved cutting all sorts of different items (and improved the little one’s cutting skills), we thought we’d use up some more of that washi tape and use it to decorate paper eggs for Easter. If you’ve signed up for our online newsletter, you have access to our entire resource library which holds all of our digital downloads and printables. If you haven’t signed up yet, we suggest signing up today so you can access those files. We’ve included a copy of our egg template used in this washi tape egg craft (in two different sizes), which makes this craft all that much easier!

What to Do

Once you’ve printed the egg template, roughly cut out the four eggs, leaving some room around each egg.

Next, choose your washi tape and place a strip of it on the egg. Continue doing so until the entire egg is covered in washi tape.

Now, turn the egg over so that you can better see the black outline of the egg and cut around it. Or, if your paper is thin enough, you may be able to see through the tape.

The possibilities are endless with this craft. You could try making a pattern with different colored tape, attach the tape in vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or random lines, or even cut out shapes from the washi tape to make polka dots, faces, or zig zags.

Looking for some more scissor skill practice? Check out this fun activity. Or, if you have some plain wooden blocks or jenga blocks, you could very easily spruce them up with washi tape. See how we overhauled our blocks here. We’ve even used washi tape on baby dolls! As you can see, washi tape is right up there with playdough as one of our favorite creative supplies!
