With just a few basic supplies, you can easily make your own custom hot glue push pins. We chose to make ours shaped as gems but you could use any shape you’d like.
It’s such a fun and easy DIY hot glue gun project that had us instantly hooked – even Miss 7 and Miss 4 had a blast making these. Continue reading below to see just how easy it is to make these hot glue push pins.

What to Do
Begin by inserting your chosen colored hot glue gun stick into your hot glue gun and allow your hot glue gun several minutes to heat up. We discovered that the hot glue push pins came out much smoother and better defined when we allowed enough time for the glue to heat up properly.

Next, slowly squeeze your hot glue into one of the silicon mold’s cavities. The glue needs time to heat up as it goes through the hot glue gun, so try not to squeeze too fast.
Fill the cavity as full as you’d like but stop just below the top to ensure a smooth top (which will later become the back of your hot glue push pin).
Allow the glue to cool for about 10-15 seconds and then, with tweezers, slowly insert the flat top of the push pin. It’s best not to insert it in too far as it may be visible from the front of the hot glue push pin when you later pop it out of the mold.
Repeat these steps until you’ve made as many hot glue push pins as you’d like. Then, allow plenty of time for them to cool completely before removing them from the silicon mold (we waited about 20 minutes or so). You’ll know they’re cool when you feel the bottom of the cavities and they are cool to the touch.

Once cool, pop your gems out and place them on your cork bulletin board. Easy, right? We love this fun DIY hot glue gun craft.
We loved how shiny and sparkly the hot glue push pins turned out – just like a real gem should be! 🙂
