She was actually laughing! Boy, do I have a story to tell but first, I have to ask, you on the search for the best math curriculum for your homeschoolers? Something that won’t cause tears? Maybe something that is even fun but at the very least, something that will help your children learn the concepts?

We recently had the opportunity to review a self-paced online math program and it is a blast! No, really!
In fact, they recently updated their course to provide a gamified experience where students can earn points, badges, and certificates as they learn and progress through their lessons.

We have used a few different online math courses before and found that while fun, they weren’t as solid as I’d like.
I love that this program is solid but also has some fun components added, which is just the cherry on top!
Within minutes of watching the first video (pre-algebra), my daughter was actually laughing! And the laughing continued throughout the lesson. I was happily surprised, as you can imagine.
She’s currently using a different math program (a textbook) and said that watching the lessons from Mr. D made learning the concepts so much easier than reading the textbook we’ve been using.
As you may know, upper level math courses can be a challenge. I’m so glad we discovered Mr. D Math when we did.
They offer online math for (preparing for) pre-algebra and beyond! And, in fact, they also offer additional courses, such as American Sign Language, athletics, and more! My daughters have been wanting to learn American Sign Language, so we just might have to give that course a try too!

Who is Mr. D?
Mr. D, a math teacher of over 20 years, has a knack for making math relatable and fun!
Mr. D Math was founded by Dennis DiNoia, who has been a math teacher since 1988. After tutoring students from his classroom, Mr. D started writing his own curriculum, from which Mr. D Math was born.
Mr. D Math has since grown to become a team of talented educators who strive to “empower young learners and help them discover their strengths.”
Mr. D Math is a fully accredited and proven high-quality math curriculum. In fact, Mr. D Math is WASC accredited, which is a testament to their commitment to continuous improvement and effectiveness.
Everything you need for the course is easily accessible from the student portal. I have used many online portals over the past 20 years and this one was definitely one of the easiest to navigate.
The navigation is all located on the side of the portal and from there you can locate your classes, assignments, awards, and contact information for the teacher.
Each chapter includes videos, course work, quizzes, and a test. Above each video, is a link for the course work, solutions, and notes. Clicking the links will open the files. Your student will then complete the assignments on paper. After doing so, either your student or you will check the work with the included course work solutions. Then, you will enter your grades online.
The videos include instruction from Mr. D as well as plenty of examples as he works through the math problems. He encourages students to complete their course work while watching the video.
The audio is clear, the graphics are simple and well organized, and I especially appreciated that he incorporated manipulatives when needed and that he worked through the problems – writing everything on the board as he went.
Mr. D knows how to make math relatable and how to teach the language of math to his students. He reminds me of that math teacher in high school that everyone remembers years later because he has such a fun personality and a knack for teaching well!
He asks questions throughout the videos which makes you feel as though you were actually attending an in-person class.
In fact, if you do need extra help, extra help sessions are offered twice a week. If you’d like even more hands on help, several of the math courses are also available as live courses.
There are also online quizzes and tests which are automatically graded.
Everything about the process – from watching the videos, completing the coursework, grading, taking tests, etc. – is very easy to navigate and complete.
If you’re looking for a math class for your children that will help them understand math as a language, and as a result, allow them to excel in a subject that so many struggle with, Mr. D Math is your solution!
