A box full of delicious snacks and kids who are excited to try something new? That is my kind of mail day.

We have been enjoying Sakuraco Japanese snack boxes, and they have been such a fun experience for our family. The boxes are packed full of food, my kids love exploring what is inside, and everything we have tried so far has been delicious.

If you have been curious about a Japanese snack subscription box, here is a look at our experience, what was inside our October 2026 box, and how you could turn one into a fun family activity.

What Is Sakuraco?

Sakuraco is a monthly Japanese snack subscription. The company describes its boxes as including 20 Japanese snacks and candies, along with tea, a 24-page snack and culture guide, and a Japanese home item.

The selection features traditional treats, including wagashi, with a new seasonal or cultural theme each month. Some snacks are made exclusively for Sakuraco. The home item varies too; examples include ceramics, chopsticks, and traditional wrapping cloths.

The company works with Japanese makers, including family-owned businesses. I appreciate that the box gives us a way to learn a little about where the food comes from while trying it ourselves.

How Does the Sakuraco Subscription Work?

Choose a subscription plan, and Sakuraco sends a themed selection from Japan each month. When it arrives, you can explore the snacks, read their stories in the guide, and enjoy the included tea alongside your treats.

I like the idea of setting aside time for a family tasting afternoon. You could choose a few things to sample together and save others for another day, making the discovery part of the fun.

Our Family’s Experience With Sakuraco

The first thing I want to mention is how much there is to explore. These boxes are packed full of snacks! If you enjoy opening a box and discovering lots of different things inside, that is a big part of the appeal.

My kids love these boxes, and they love trying the food. That has been my favorite part of the experience: seeing their excitement about tasting something new.

And the food has lived up to that excitement. Everything we have tried so far has been delicious. That is the biggest reason I am excited to share these boxes with you.

For me, the appeal is having something we can enjoy together. A snack box like this gives everyone something to explore, talk about, and taste. There is no elaborate activity to prepare, which is always a welcome bonus in my book.

Inside Our October 2026 Sakuraco Box

The box we explored was the October 2026 Echoes of Ukiyo-e box, inspired by Japanese art. Its theme introduced ukiyo-e and the way artists depicted everyday life and the changing seasons.

As someone who loves art and hands-on learning, I think this is a lovely starting point for connecting food with a little art appreciation.

The October selection included:

  • Kuromame Tea
  • Ukiyo-e Printed Cookie
  • Choju-giga Kaya Cloth
  • Choju-giga Hozui Marshmallow
  • Matcha Mizu Yokan
  • Chestnut Manju
  • Twisted Arare
  • Curry Senbei
  • Nori Wind Okoshi & Matcha Thunder Okoshi
  • Azuki Mochi Monaka
  • Kabuki Renjishi Senbei
  • Spiral Karinto
  • Kinako Kibi Dango
  • Savory Ginkgo Nuts

The Choju-giga Kaya Cloth was the home item in this selection, rather than something to eat.

Sakuraco’s boxes change monthly. This list shows what was in our October box; check the current selection before ordering rather than expecting these exact items.

A Fun Addition to a Homeschool Day

If you homeschool, a box like this could be a simple way to bring a little food exploration into your week. You could find Japan on a map, read about the featured theme, and try a few snacks together.

For an art-inspired box like this one, you could also look at examples of the featured artwork and invite your children to draw a seasonal scene of their own.

Another easy idea is to make a snack tasting page. Have each child write the snack’s name, draw a picture, and describe what they noticed. Would they choose it again? Was it similar to anything they have eaten before?

Of course, you can also just open the snacks and enjoy them. Every delicious thing does not need an accompanying worksheet. Sometimes snack time can simply be snack time!

Who Would Enjoy a Sakuraco Box?

Based on our experience, I think Sakuraco is worth considering for families who enjoy trying new foods together. It could also make a thoughtful gift for someone interested in Japan, traditional snacks, or tea.

The monthly variety is part of the appeal, so it makes the most sense for someone who enjoys discovering a curated selection. Before ordering, take a look at the current theme, total cost with shipping, and subscription terms to decide whether it fits your budget and plans.

If anyone in your family has food allergies or dietary restrictions, review the information for the specific items before tasting.
