What to Do
Begin by downloading and printing the Christmas donut counting cards. We recently signed up for the HP Instant Ink program and are loving it! They offer several different plans (such as $4.99 for 100 pages a month) and will automatically send you new cartridges before you even need them. We are now saving SO MUCH money (and time) on ink and I don’t feel guilty printing out new printables and playdough mats each day.
If you want to check it out, ordering through our link here will give you one free month of service. You can use just about any HP printer but we’ve been using this compact one and absolutely love it! The color is gorgeous and matches my decor (we’ll call that a win!) and the size is smaller than any printer I’ve ever owned which is great for small spaces (or living room/dining room offices). Between HP Instant Ink and our compact printer, my printing life truly has become so much easier to print all these fun playdough mats and activity sheets we’ve been making lately.

Once you’ve printed, laminated, and cut out your Christmas donuts and number cards, it’s time to have some fun!
Christmas Donut Counting Card Playtime
To play, you can lay out the Christmas donuts and number cards and ask your child to place the correct donut hole with the donut. We included blank donuts as well as donuts with sprinkles so that the child could take a donut hole (number card) and a blank donut and make the appropriate number of sprinkles out of playdough to correctly match the number card.
I have to admit, I had just as much fun with this activity as the kids! Rolling out tiny sprinkles is great for fine-motor skills too. Cutting out the donuts and donut holes is also great for hand strengthening. Miss 4, in particular, loved helping me cut out all the donuts.
We had a great time making playdough sprinkles for our Christmas donut counting cards and matching them up. You could also turn this into a matching game by printing out two sets of Christmas donut counting cards and placing them face down, just as in a traditional memory matching game.
This activity would also pair well with the popular book, “If You Give a Dog a Donut.”

You could also use these sheets with dry-erase markers and draw your sprinkles on.
